Hong Kong is in the thick of the Coronavirus concern and while scientists work to develop a prevention vaccine safe for humans, you might be wondering what you can do to protect yourself and your family right now. Here are a few tips we’ve come up with to prevent picking up and spreading these germs.

1) Wash Your Hands

We all know this, but how well do we practice it? You need to be washing your hands more than just after you go to the bathroom and before you eat a meal. Think of all the surfaces you touch throughout the day and how many possible germs are lurking there. Now think of where you are spreading those germs to with unwashed hands— your face, your phone (which touches your face), your children’s faces, etc.

We understand you can’t live in a bubble 24/7 and that your hands will pick up germs, so why not fight it the best way you can? However, we recommend using a soap that doesn’t have harmful chemicals that can lower your immune system and overall health. Our personal favorite is Soapnut Republic’s Foaming Hand Soap which is naturally antiseptic and antifungal.

2) Clean Surfaces

Let’s be honest, there’s no way to keep all the dirt and germs from the outside world from entering your living space, no matter how well and how often you wash your hands. This is especially true if you have little children. We all know they just love to bring home every germ out there. So let's talk about the second line of defense.

Clean, clean, clean. First we would suggest cleaning things like your phone, your handbag, your door handles, and anything that you find yourself touching multiple times a day with a Multi-Purpose Spray  cleaner.

Then focus on things like remotes, counter tops, and sinks.

If you have a baby or a toddler, we highly recommend using a floor cleaner to protect your little crawler from all of the possible germs we are constantly tracking in from the outdoor world.

3) Wash Fabrics in Your Home

This is a big one that goes unnoticed. Things like sheets, throw blankets, and decorative pillows are things we have a ton of physical contact with daily. During this time, when we should be extra careful with the spreading of germs, you should increase the frequency of washing these things. Just like hand soap, laundry detergent is an area that you have to look out for added chemicals that can be more harmful than helpful. An all-natural laundry soap like the one we link here is the best thing to use for your family’s overall health and safety.

These are just a few tips we have to offer on how to keep you and your family extra safe in this unsettling time. We also highly recommend that you do your own research and read articles such this one from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Also, listen to the advice of your health professional. Stay safe!
